ON 'CHANGE.

■ FLUCTUATIONS IN SHARES. BUSINESS LIVENS UP. COMMERCIALS IN DEMAND. After a particularly quiet morning business on the local Stock Exchange livened up yesterday afternoon, and fair business was transacted before brokers closed down for the day. At this morning's call the improvement was fully maintained. Chief feature was a keen demand for Commercials, which had four sales of fair-sized parcels at £1 1/8, an advance of 7cl on Saturday's valuation. Subsequently, buyers retired to £1 1/6. Following on business in the South at £1 5/2 and £1 5/3, Australian Bank of Commerce also firmed up, with buyers at £1 4/10. There was a strong demand this morning for local bodies debentures —an unusually large number being quoted—as well as the customary preference for Government stocks. Mount Lyells moved up further, with buyers at £1 9/. Reliance Loans were offered at £1 1/. The Noon Call. l Satisfactory business continued during the morning. A number of additional sales were notified at the noon call, and bidding ; proceeded with a healthy tone. English and Scottish Banks were wanted, and buyers advanced 1/6 to £6 8/6. Gas shares were firm, with buyers at £1 4/3. After being neglected for several months j the woollen section received some attention, with inquiries for all classes of ; Kaiapoi shares. For the ordinaries 10/6 was offered, for the 7/ con. 3/9, and for • the 17/ pref. 13/. • P. and O. deferreds were offered at £2 14/, and Taupo Totara Timber at 16/.
