NOTES FROM RICCARTON

■ HORSES FOR DUNEDIN. RADIATE LOOKING WELL. A. E. ELLIS NOT RIDING AT ELLERSLIE. (By Telegraph.—Special to " Star.") CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Training operations at Riccarton this morning did not arouse much interest. Heavy rain fell during the night, and although it ceased before work commenced, a bitterly cold wind was in evidence. All the galloping was done on the No. 1 grass track, which was in fair order. Some of the horses with engagements at the Dunedin meeting were sent along at about their best, but others were restricted to easier tasks.

Radiate galloped a mile and a quarter in 2.24, taking 59 4-5s for the last halfmile. He will not be schooled again prior to his departure for Wingatui, his trainer being quite satisfied with his jumping. Radiate looks well, and he will have to be reckoned with in most of the crosscountry events at Dunedin.

Subdivision and Tripaway went out to work six furlongs in company. Tripaway was not in a galloping mood, and Subdivision, under a strong pull, finished six lengths in front, after being twice that distance clear of his mate at one stage of the journey, which occupied 1.23 1-5, the last half-mile taking 565. These two will accompany Radiate to Wingatui. It is probable this trip will bring Tripaway's racing career to a close, and she will "be retired to the stud. Straighteonrse was half a length in front of Semper Paratus at the end of six furlongs run in 1.19 3-5, while Full Feather narrowly defeated Waterline over a mile in 1.44 2-5. H. Cutts will take these four horses South to-morrow to represent Sir Charles Clifford at Dunedin. They are in good fettle, and they should pay their way on the trip. Arikiwai covered seven furlongs in 1.30 1-5, Dunraven assisting him over the last half-mile, which took 52 l-ss. Arikiwai looks well after his race at Ashburton, and if the Wingatui track is reasonably firm he should show up prominently in the Birthday Handicap. Desert Song, Aberfeldy and Gala Day were associated over half a mile up the back, which they left behind in 51s—a useful effort. Toawai and Miss Bradbury went out to do six furlongs in company. Toawai bolted, however, and Miss Bradbury ran five furlongs alone in 1.5 1-5. She "looks none thP worse fcr her race at Ashburton. Amorist (G. Salt) jumped two hurdles, giving a good exhibition. Most of the Riccarton trainers with horses engaged at the Dunedin meeting will go South on Thursday. A. E. Ellis, who won the Great Northern Hurdles on Mister Gamp last yeaivwill not be at Ellerslie on this occasion. He has a number of engagements at the Dunedin meeting. " ,
