INVESTIGATION OF LAW. FLORISTS AND MILK VENDORS EVIDENCE IX AUCKLAND. . . , The Auckland inquiry of the Special Committee, appointed by Parliament to investigate the working of the Shops and Offices Act, was continued at the Chamber of Commerce rooms this morning, Mr. A. J. Murdoch, M.P., presiding. The local florists repeated requests made by florists in Southern centres for the compulsory closing of florists' shops at G p.m. on orlinary days, 9 p.m. on late nights and 5 p.m.. on Saturdays. Florists stated they desired that no person should be allowed to sell flowers after their closing' hours and that all sellers of flowers be subject to licenses, subject to enrosement or cancellation on conviction for after-hour trading. The seedsmen supported the florists' requests, and asked for similar restrictions on fruiterers and others selling seeds and plants as a side line. The milk vendors, who are employers of labour, asked that the provisions of the Act prohibiting employment of roundsmen before 3 a.m. be struck out, to enable them to compete with nonemployers of labour. The committee expects to finish its Auckland sittings to-morrow.
