Brett as Government representative on the board of the Jubilee Institute for the Blind, it was the last meeting of the board,'had been approved .by the Governor-General. Mr. Brett will fill the place, recently vacated by Mr. F. C. Mappin, w ; hp resigned. Under the will of the late Mr. £tuart Gordon Gray,, the secretary reported, the institute had benefited to the extent of £457. Mr. Gray, formerly a resident of Dunedin, had been a resident at the institute since 1923, and had died there last September. It was felt by the trustees that it was a particularly kindly action. that he should have left such a large portion of his, estate for the benefit of the blind. It was decided by the board to proceed at once with the erection ggf a new wing of the workshops, at an 'estimated cost of £5000. This action was rendered necessary by the increasing trade in institute .goods, the increasing number of blind people seeking, permanent employment and the heavy pressure on the present accommodation. "Receipts from 'sales of goods in the year immediately prior to the opening of the present workshops had amounted to £5934. and in the year just past they amounted to £11,(100. The v number on the institute roll had increased from 100 to 13S and there wore still more blind people desirous of, making use of the facilities at tho iustitute.
