FLUCTUATIONS IN SHARES. WEEK OPENS QUIETLY. COMMERCIALS FIRMER. The local Stock Exchange opened quietly this morning, and at the first call no business was recorded, and bidding generally was tame, with many lines passed by unquoted. A feature of the call was the improvement in Commercial Banks, for which buyers offered £1 1/6. Auckland Gas also was firm, with buyers at £1 4/3. There was a,- definite preference for Government stocks and local body debentures, many issues being asked for at late rates. A parcel of iWe (IQQ§) Government stock was offered at £98 io/. The Noon Call.. Added strength in Australian Banks was manifested at the noon call.. New South Wales showed a small advance, with a sale at £39 10/, and Nationals of Australasia firnmd up further, with buyers for the ordinary at £15 5J and at £7 12/ for the contributing. Australasias were firm, witli offers of £12 4/, and buyers of Union advanced their limits to £11 7/6. A buyer came forward for New Zealand Nationals at £6 5/. The special demand for gilt-edges was instanced by a sale of Inscribed at £98 15/, an advance of 15/ in the week. Breweries seemed a little easier, with sellers at £2 13/ and buyers £2 12/3.
