CORINTHIANS WIN.
The meeting of the two A grade "babies," Corinthians and Manurewa, was an • interesting occasion. Although Corinthians ran out winners by 3 goals to nil they were rather lucky, as Manurewa had quite an equal share of the game. It was only the exceptional goalkeeping of Lyons that kept the Corinthian goal intact. There was not much good football throughout the game, as neither team seemed able to work up.combination, although there were several cleverly combined movements, but they did not last long. For Corinthians, Lyons in goal played well up to ; . . . form, and saved his side on many occa««v!ramm!Ksi«™,™, sions when it seemed almost certain that the opposing side would score. Of the two full backs, Dyson and Taylor, the latter was the more prominent, although his partner played a solid bustling game . In the half-back line, .Jones, at right half, was. fair, but did not place the ball too well. The centre-half, Williamson;, played a hard game, but lacks the quality of opening up the play. Dawson, at left half, was not outstanding. On the left of the forward line lay the strength of the attack, Wood, on- the wing, and Ansteed, his partner, putting in some very pretty work, H. Jamieson and A. Jamieson, at centre forward and inside, right respectively, -were not very effective, when in front of the goal, but worked hard throughout the game. The remaining forward, Kennedy, on the right wing, put across some nice passes, but very frequently hung too long on the ball. . : For Manurewa, G. Anderson, in goal, acruitted himself fairly well, and did not have much chance to stop the shots that got past him. Woods and Ross, the fullbacks, " were none too sure" in their clearances, but both worked hard from start to iflnish. The centre-half, Corbett, played a steady game, placing the ball well, repeatedly; striving to send his forwards away. Brown, at right-half,.was a?hard worker, but found the opposition more than be was able to cope with. On the left of the trio, Clarke, emerged with honours about even with the opposing -winger. Bach of the forward line 1 tried hard, but they lacked the Combination of the previous week. Palmer and Donaldson were the most outstanding,, the former making some nice openings, but they were,' not % turned to advantage. In the centre of. the line,' Lees had several opportunities, but did not turn them to account, losing control of the ball at the critical moment. On the right, L. Anderson and Williamson good work at times, but were'not allowed to get very far down the field 1 with the ball i*>. • their possession.
