ASSAULT AND THEFT.
SWANSON SCHOOL INCIDENT. BOURKE SENT TO GAOL. "PICKING UP WHAT HE CAN." John Bourke, a. labourer, aged 36, who, after being found without lawful excuse in the room of the Swanson School on tho night of May IS, assaulted Mr. John Beechcr Guy, chairman of the school committee, appeared for sentence on those charges at the Police Court this morning, He was further charged with three counts of stealing a pair of shoes, a hat, electric torch, razor, and toilet articles, of a total value of £3 9/. Bourke admitted these, charges. Sub-Inspector Shanahan produced accused's list of previous convictions, adding that he was not long out" of prison. "Ho seems to be wandering about the country picking up what he can," said Mr. Hunt, in sending Bourke to prison for three months on one of the theft charges. »
