TE PUKE. At the annual meeting of the Te Puke branch of the Farmers' Union Mr. .1. A. McGhie presided. The Hawera branch. ,wr'n> saying that only .":> farmers- had been signed up for the. proposed tour of the Bay of Plenty and as the Railway Department stipulated a minimum of luO it was probable that the trip would not eventuate. Tree-planting for afforestation purposes was discussed, and it was decided- to approach local authorities with ;i view :■> the prevention of land suitable for farming being used for tree-planting and further urse the Government to plant for shelter purposes.
