MANUKAU BEAT CITY.
Manukau beat City by 18 points to nil at Onehunga before a big crowd in a game that was rather ragged on the whole. City made good use of their weight, but did not know a great deal about dribbling, and once the ball came out to the open the fast Manukau forwards gave City a torrid time of it. Towards the finish, when the result was beyond any doubt. City tired and Manukau eased up. Whitehead,
Holt and Barnes were City's best forwards, and of a mediocre back team McKay and Blakey were the pick.
The game was marred by several unpleasant incidents. Jones received a heavy punch on the mouth from a player, and though he played on he felt the effects of it all through the game. Turei, ManuUau's full back, dropped the finest goal from the field seen in Auckland for some years, from, near the middle of the field, and five yards inside half way. It went over the posts with over 15 yards to spare, and should go down in football history as one of the finest dropped goals ever scored here. Bryers scored a nice try behind the posts, and Thomas and E. Brimble were prominent in good runs. Pyle, McGuire and Dickson were all good forwards, and Kahu went close to scoring several times. Manukau have not yet had their line crossed this year, but have had several goals kicked against them.
