DIED IN POLICEMAN'S ARMS.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
HASTINGS, this day.
A stir was caused in Hastings last evening when a woman, Mrs. S. Kennedy, aged 38, was found lying on the footpath in Queen Street. She was taken to the police staiton and died in the arms of the senior-sergeant.
From information available it appears that the woman arrived here from Wellington on Saturday and took a room at a. boarding house. About 6.30 p.m., accompanied by two men and another woman, she went for a motor drive, returning at 11 o'clock. Mrs. Kennedy complained on the way back of not feeling well, and some difficulty was experienced in getting her out of the car on their arrival at the boarding house. When the other woman attempted to take Mrs. Kennedy to her room the proprietress of the boarding house, it is stated, mistaking the woman's condition, refused to allow her to enter. Thereupon the other woman telephoned for the police and a constable arrived and took Mrs. Kennedy to the station, where she died within a short time.
A doctor stated that death was due to natural causes, but an inquest will be held.
