NURSES DISAPPROVE.
TRAINING IN PRIVATE
HOSPITALS. PROTEST IN WELLINGTON. (By Telegraph.—Own WELLINGTON, Sunday. At a special meeting of the Wellington branch of the New Zealand Trained Nurses' Association discussion took place on the proposed amendment of the Nursing and Medical Service Act, which will aflow private hospitals _ to tram nurses. A resolution was carried unanimously declaring that the Wellington branch desired to voice its entire disapproval of allowing private hospitals to become training schools, on the following grounds: —
That the status of New Zealand nurses would be lowered, as a comprehensive training could not be given in private hospitals; that reciprocity with Great Britain would be seriously affected; that the amendment would lead to an inefficient nursing service to the public, since the requirements of the present day medical service demanded a greater technical and more comprehensive training in all branches ,of nursing, which could'only be supplied at. public hospitals.
It was decided to interest various organisations,' with the object of obtainjner their support in presenting petitions Parliament asking that the proposal be dropped.
