THE CHOICE IN PARNELL.

In spite of the tons of literature pubj lished for the political education of the i masses the working man with the Tory mind is not yet extinct, and is to be found within the- boundaries of Parnell electorate. His case is practically hopeless. Nevertheless, on the principle that that I am my brother's keeper, I want to save him from voting in defence of his own serfdom. Let me therefore tell i him what Toryism stands for. It stands j four-square for: (1) Monopolies; (2) placing the burden of taxation on the shoulders of the workers; (3) lower and. still lower wages; (4) Paul Pryism; (5) government by Orders-in-Council to flout and defeat the will of democracy, which Toryism superciliously despises: (6) the exportation of most of the best New Zealand food products, leaving the very worst for the workers and middle-class people of "God's Own Country" to either consume or starve; (7) interference with legitimate trading, and the piling up of regulations and restrictions to hamper and badger inoffensive people in every direction; (8) immigration to swell the ranks of surplus labour, so as to force down wages and break the sturdy spirit of the workers; (9) importing boys for Flock House without making provision for them to ultimately acquire farms of their own; (10) neither settling the backblocks nor the idle front blocks; (11) reducing the pay of the Civil Service in order to grant rebates of land and income tax to wealthy Tories; (12) stagnation and increasing bankruptcies; (13) no openings for boys on leaving school; (14) permanent unemployment, misery, and soup kitchens. In the face of all this will the working man with the Tory mind still vote Tory, or will he assert his manhood and vote United? The United party is the only party that can pull us out of the poisonous Tory swamp and confer upon us within a reasonable time the blessings arising from the unswerving pursuit of its enlightened and progressive policy. ELECTOR.
