DEARER MILK.
PRICE RAISED A HALF-PENAH. , PROTEST BY PRODUCERS. Bottled milk in Auckland has been advanced in price by a half-penny pel quart. From to-day it will be sold at 6Jd a quart by members of the Auckland MiU Vendors' Association, instead of 1 6d a quart, the price that has ruled since last spring. Milk served to consumers direct from the cans, however, will be sold at the existing price. At a meeting of the Auckland Whole Milk Producers' Association at Otahuliu last evening exception was taken to the increase. Mr. W. W. Massey presided. It was stated by speakers that producers could be given a better return and an increase in prices could be avoided if the vendors reorganised distribution. This would prevent overlapping in the service. One road in Remuera was served by as many as 26 vendors. Complaints concerning the price paid to the producers were frequent. The average price was lOd a gallon for milk sold, on contract and about 5d a gallon foi any supplied in excess of the contract quantity. , It was decided tliat the representatives of the association should wait on the Vendors' Association and discuss the I position.
