RAFFLE STOPPED.
COMPLAINTS AT TE ABOHA. SECRETARY CONVICTED. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) THAMES, this day. The secretary of the Waiomio Park Committee was charged with establishing a lottery by which a prize of a £5 note was offered, but which was called a "eteel engraving." It was state! that a permit was obtained from the Minister of Internal Affaire'to raffle a eteel engraving, but owing to a complaint made at Te Aroha the police took action under the Gaming Act, when the sale of tickets was immediately stopped and the raffle was not drawn. Tho Bench commented that the secretary had never himself sold any tickets, but a conviction must be entered. Payment of costs, 10/, was ordered.
