OVERCROWDED GRAMMARS.
ROLLS TO BE LIMITED. DECISION BY BOARD. Considerable discussion arose at a meeting of the Auckland Grammar School Board yesterday on the important matter of'arranging suitable limits to the number of pupils who will be seeking admittance to the several city Grammar Schools next year. The board previously decided two years ago that the roll limit at the Mount Eden Grammar should be no more than 750, but the headmaster now reports that there are 974 pupils in attendance. He advises that, to eiisuio efficiency, no more than 324 should be admitted next year. The position will be referred to the Minister of Education. _ Since the other Grammar Schools are in much the same -predicament, the board definitely decided to limit their rolls:—Mount Albert, 030; Auckland Girls', 030; Epsom Girls', 600; Takapuna, 430. The board will endeavour to have the. construction of the Takapuna Grammar School, which is not yet finished, completed as soon as possible. Mr. A. W. Hall, M.P., was elected in the place of a retiring governor, Mr. McLennan.
