BODY IDENTIFIED.

HARBOUR FATALITY. FIREMAN OFF TRAWLER, The body of the man found floating in the Auckland Harbour, off the eastern side of the Western wharf yesterday afternoon, has been identified as that of Louis Paterson, a fireman off the trawler Thomas Currell. When the body was recovered, about 2 p.m., it appeared to have been in the water for not more than twelve hours. According to police reports, there were no marks of violence on it, and the fact that Patereon's arms were raised in line with the shoulders indicated that he had attempted to swim. The appearance of the body was consistent with accidental drowning. Paterson often slept on the Thomas Currell, and, as he was wearing neither coat nor vest, it seemed that he fell over tiie side. When the coroner (Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M.) opened the :nquest into the death of Paterson this morning, formal evidence of identification was given by Daniel McFarlane, a labourer, of 222, Hobson St. Witness said he had known Paterson for 18 months, and believed he was a native of the Shetland Islands; aged about 50. The inquiry was adjourned fiine die.
