TALK BROADCAST.
CLEAR IN AUSTRALIA. « SYDNEY, April 30. The inauguration of the wireless telephone service between England and Australia at 5.30 p.m. to-day, Sydney time, was completely successful. The quarter of an hour's conversation between Mr. Mac Donald and Mr. Scullin, which was broadcast throughout Australia, created a profound impression, and, indeed, it was uncanny. Mr. Mac Donald began by expressing his pleasure at being able to establish personal contact again with his old friends in Australia. He paid a tribute to the engineers responsible for making the spoken word possible between Britain and Australia. , Mr. Mac Donald said their achievement would be the means of knitting more closely together the two countries. He discussed in very clear tones Australia's financial difficulties, and extended his sympathy to Mr. Scullin in his efforts to right the ship of state. The British Prime Minister briefly surveyed the Naval Conference, and exclaimed in happy vein: 'What an age we are living in! What would our grandfathers have to say about it? 5 He closed with cordial greetings to Mr. Scullin and the people of Australia.
