LEAGUE FOOTBALL.

SENIOR 13 GRADE. POINT CHEVALIER'S GOOD WIN. The senior B grade competition under League rules was commenced in earnest on Saturday last, when some close games were witnessed. The standard was particularly good for the opening and augurs well for some keen games. The elevation of Mount Albert into the senior grade is welcomed by other suburban clubs. The code has been played in the Mount Albert district for only three years, during which time splendid support from the district has been good reason for an attempt to make seniors from promising juniors. Mount Albert had a bye last Saturday. The success of Point Chevalier against Parnell was a feature of the first series. The grade champions of last season had a good win by 23 points to S. Not at every stage, however, was the game onesided. Parnell appeared to be out of condition, and their attack lacked finish. Point again resorted to rush tactics, which gave the forwards control of the game. Keeping the ball at toe, the front division penetrated far into Parnell's somewhat weak defence. The winners look again like taking a prominent part in the competition. Parnell have not yet mustered its full strength. As the matches progress a better thirteen is likely to win matches. For Point Chevalier, Lane, at fullback. was a little uncertain in fielding. He should run more towards his threequarters and start passing bouts. Duncan, at centre, played a solid game. His straight running paved the way for two tries. Emmerson, a promoted junior, impressed on attack. McLaren and Christmas, the wings, did well with limited opportunities. The forwards combined effectively. Surtees and Horton being outstanding,, while Monoghan, the captain, played a heady game.

For the losers, Munce and Alderton, juniors transferred from the Akarana Club, played really well. The latter has a lot of pace and is a determined runner. Kerr played soundly at full-back, but kicked recklessly times. With a few more games, the five-eighths, Lunn and Anderson, should make a good combination. McLaren and Campney were the pick of the forwards..

Richmond fielded almost a new team against Northcote, and after a keen same the maroons won by 6 points to 3. Both teams threw the ball about in good style. Richmond's backs were very pleasing. The harbour side thirteen, although beaten, is going to play a prominent part.

At; Mangere. the local thirteen was beaten by Otaiuhu, 11 points to 5. Otahuhu have again a powerful pack, likely to develop into formidable combination. The Maoris badly lacked condition, particularly the three-quarters, who bad numerous opportunities. FIXTURES FOR SATURDAY. The following fixtures have been arranged for Saturday :— SENIOR GRADE A.
