LAWN TENNIS.
COUNTRY MATCHES. LEES CUP CONTEST. A number of inter-association and inter-club matches were played in various' parts of the province over the week-end. The match for the. Lees Cup between Matata (holders) and Tauranga South was won by Tauranga South by 13 matches to 0. Mr. T. Burt, in presenting the cup, stated that it had been presented 18 years ago for competition among the tennis clubs in the Bay of Plenty. During that period, the cup had, except for one occasion when it was held by the Tauranga Club for a short time, been continuously held by Matata. In the United Tennis Association's competition, Mangatawhiri . defeated Pokeno by nine matches to five. A team from the Kaukapakapa Tennis Club visited Woodhill and defeated the Woodhill Club by 7 sets to 6. The Tauranga Club -defeated Te Puke by 14 matches to 10. The Whakatane Club played Opotiki, winning by 13 matches to 9.
HOWICK V. PAKURANGA,
The final match in the Hughes' Cup competition between the Howick and Pakuranga Lawn Tennis Clubs, played at Howick on Saturday, resulted in a win for the former by 10 games to 2.
