SOCCER FOOTBALL.
VISIT TO AUSTRALIA. tf.Z. COUNCIL'S APATHY. SCHOOLBOY "ALL BLACKS." Some anxiety is being felt in Auckland Soccer circles in regard to the prospective tour of Australia by a New Zealand schoolboy side. In addition to a somewhat ambiguous Press report from Wellington last week regarding a conflict in dates with the Australian authorities, signs of active interest on behalf of the controlling body in New Zealand have been pitifully wanting. The apparent apathy of the council has accentuated the feeling of concern here. Letters in regard to the tour, the arrangements for which will entail much, time and travelling by the solo selector, Mr. E. P. Harrison, Belniont School, as well as by the- officials in school Soccer throughout the country, have remained unacknowledged by the New Zealand Council since February 14 and 24 respectively. . The position is that the selection of the players to make the tour, the educational value of which cannot be overstressed, will require to b& made during the May vacation if the trip is to eventuate in August, as was intended. The organisation, assembly and equipment of the party is a task that cannot be completed in a few days, and those responsible should not be hampered by dilatoriness on the part of the controlling body. It was hoped that Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin centres would have their probables chosen and ready to play in games at which the sole selector would be present in Christchurch on May 17 and Wellington during the same week. Unless much more practical interest is shown and help given by the New Zealand Council this will be impossible and will hamper, if not destroy, the chances of sending the best team to Australia and giving all the schoolboy devotees of the code a fair chance of selection.
