THREE NEW INSPECTORS. CHANGE IN ORGANISATION. '• MANY TRANSFERS ANNOUNCED. (By Telegraph. —Owa Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, Friday. The Commissioner of Police, Mr. W. 1 B. Mcllyeney, announces the following ® promotions and transfers in the police 1 force, to take effect on April 1:— '• Sub-Inspector P. J> McCarthy, of 3 Auckland to be promoted to the rank of ' inspector, and transferred to the charge 1 of the Inver(:argill district, in succession I of the late Inspector Fahey. 5 Sub-Inspector J. Lander, of Welling- ; ton, is promoted to the rank of inspee--5 tor and is attached to headquarters staff 1 for duty as relieving inspector through- * out the Dominion. » Sub-Inspector J. Cummings, of Dun- . edin, is promoted to the rank of inspecr tor and is placed in charge of the Dun- ; edin Central district, which will be constituted under the co-ordinated district | system in forco in Auckland, Wellingi ton and. Christchurch. Senior-Detective C. W. Lopdell, of; Wellington, is promoted to the rank of sub-inspector and replaces Sub-Inspec-tor Lander at Wellington. Auckland Detectives' Chief. Senior - Sergeant Thomas Gibson, of Timaru, is promoted to the rank of subinspector and will take charge of the detective staff at Auckland. Senior-Sergeant R. R. J. Ward, of Wellington, is promoted to the rank of sub-inspector and will, take charge of the detective staff at Wellington. Senior-Sergeant T. Shanahan, of Christchurch, is promoted to the rank ;of sub-inspector in the uniform branch at Auckland. Senior-Sergeant J. J. O'Grady, of Auckland, will replace him at Christchurch. Senior - Sergeant Jtihn Powell, of Napier, is transferred to the Auckland Central station to replace Senior-Ser-geant O'Grady., Senior-Sergeant John A. jDempsey is - transferred from Hastings 'to Wellington to replace Sub-Inspector Ward. Sergeant I. H. Mathieson is reappointed to the grade of senior sergeant and is transferred to Timaru. v • Sergeant A. E. J. Stark, of Frankton" station, is appointed senior sergeant sat Napier. Millar, of Newmarket; Auckland, takes charge of Tokomaru Bay station. Sergeant E. Finch, district clerk at Wanganui, takes charge, of Newmarket. Sergeant T. Moriarty, district clerk at Palmerston North, takes charge of Frankton station. Sergeant C. Harley,. district clerk at Timaru, replaces SeniorSergeant Mathieson at Hamilton. ;; • Constable J. The growth of Auckland and Wellington,: and the consequent increased responsibility upon the police/ has prompted the commissioner - to carry , out important changes in the organisation of the force. In future police officers holding the commissioned ■ rank: of sub-inspector will, have charge of the detective staffs in these cities. In addition, Dunedin has been promoted in the police force status, and a central district in accordance ' with the system ■ now operating in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch has been established ' there.
