BANKS A SHADE FIRMER.

A fair amount of business was completed yesterday after the nooh call, with little alteration in. values. A sale of Farmers' Fertilisers at £1 was 9d lower than the previous transaction. At this, morning's call the only sale recorded was of Commercial Banks at £1 2/2. The position in regard to banks, however, indicates a slight firming, applying to most issues. Buyers of Australian Commerce offered £1 5/6, against £1 4/10 yesterday, and there are still buyers of Commercials at £1 2/2. Australasia's are up 1/, with buyers at £12 5/. English and Scottish, at buyers £6 6/,' and New Zealand Natioanls, £5 18/, each show 1/ advance, is ew Zealands, on the other hand, are a shade weaker, with buyers at £2 16/6. Unions are up 6d. The firming movement appears to have embraced other Australian securities. Buyers of Australian Glass have advanced 9d to £2 2/3; Burns' Philp 6d, to £1 16/6; Mount Lyells lid, to £1 13/3; and Electrolytic Zinc (ord.), 4d to £1 5/i,and prefs 1/, to £1 6/9. The Noon Call. At the noon call three fresh sales were recorded, on the. basis of the morning quotations. Mount Lyells showing at £1 13/6. an advance of 1/ on the last transaction. Breweries are in demand, and there were buyers in this section for Innes and Co., New Zealands, Staples and Co., and Monteiths. interest Rates.
