LAND FOR SETTLEMENT. MOSTLY IN SOUTH ISLAND. BALLOTS AT EAJILY DATES. (By Telegrapli.—Press Association.) »• NELSON, Monday. In an interview to-day, the Hon. G. W. Forbes, Minister of Lands, said that in pursuance of the Government's policy of closer settlement, the Department had.4s sections of improved land which would be disposed of by ballot in the near future. These included the Wilden settlement, near Edievale, Southland, comprising eleven sections of grazing and mixed, farming land, which would be opened on March 31. There was also the Rosebery settlement, Oamaru, comprising nine sections of dairying and agricultural land, which would be opened on April 7. The Tapanui settlement, Otago, of nine sections, would be opened on April 1, and • Clune's settlement (Methven), of eight sections of mixed farming land, would be opened, on April 7. . j
"In addition to these activities," said the Minister, "ray Department is offering fon selection a large number of unimproved Crown sections, with respect to which liberal advances will be made to selectors to enable them to carry out necessary improvements as provided in the legislation of last session." The Minister added that advisory committees appointed under the Act were actively engaged in the field, and additional sections would be offered as their reports came to hand.
