TRAMS TO "THE POINT."

FIB ST RUN SUNDAY WEEK

STATEMENT BY MR.' BAILDON.

Trams will commence to run over the first section of the new Point Chevalier route on Sunday week, March 30.

A statement to this effect was made at to-day's meeting of the Auckland Transport Board, by the acting chairman, Mr. George Baildon. He commented that it was most satisfactory that the work had been pushed ahead so rapidly, and that the cars would be able to run as far as the Point Chevalier Hall corner.

The completion of the first section of the route will mark the second new service to be inaugurated by the Transport Board under its gigantic loan scheme, which embraces the building of new tram cars, and the extension of various suburban route-. Only recently the Dominion Road extension was finished, and cars are now running to Balmoral, the new terminus. Work on the Remuera extension is progressing apace and it is expected that the time is not far distant when the Mount Eden extension will be commenced.

Balmoral Signs,

Apropos of the alteration of the Dominion Eoad destination signs on the tramcars to "Balmoral," letters were received from the Balmoral Businessmen's Association thanking the board for the expeditious manner in which it had made the alteration, and from the Mount Eden Borough Council suggesting that the sign should be "BalmoralDominion Road."

Mr. Baildon said there appeared to be some difference of opinion over the matter* and the board did not want to be involved in any controversy. The letters were merely received.
