WORKERS' COMPENSATION.
INVESTIGATION BEGUN. NO ORDER OF REFERENCE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The first meeting of the committee set up by the Minister of Labour to consider possible amendments to the Workers' Compensation Act was held this morning. The Hon. W. A. Veitch presided at tl~e opening, and Mr. S. G. Smith, M.P., took the chair afterwards. Mr. Veitch said the Government did not lay down any order of reference for the guidance of the committee, nor did it suggest that the committee should take any particular line in its investigations. He was convinced that every member of the committee had a sense of responsibility, and would bring his best judgment to bear on the problem, looking at it from the humanitarian aspect. A general had been issued to those who desired to give evidence to do so.
It was generally agreed that the proceedings should be private, and that a summary of what had been done should be issued from time to time.
