Charges Against Australian Ministers. ALLEGATIONS REFUTED. (Received 11 a.m.) SYDNEY, this day. Investigation of charges by Mr. S. Williams concerning mining ordinances in New Guinea are being fostered by the Australian Labour party. Mr. Williams alleges that by the actions of Messrs. J. A. Beasley and E. G. Theodore, members of the Federal Cabinet, miners on the gold fields have been dispossessed in favour of a large company. The charges were refuted by the Ministers, whose explanations were accepted by the party executive, and Mr. Williams 5 endorsement for the State's Parliamentary seat was ordered to be cancelled. Mr. Williams has since written to the executive offering to substantiate his allegations so that the matter will probablv be revived at the Labour party's Easter 'conference. MAILS DAMAGED? Result of Destructive Fire on Comorin. VESSEL LEAVES PORT. (Received 9.30 a.m.) COLOMBO, March 16. In spite of the assurance of the local agents there appears to have been a considerable amount of cargo and Australian mails damaged by the fire on the Comorin. Trunks, suitcases, etc., were brought to the Customs baggage room late last night and passengers were seen sorting and seeking to rescue their wearing apparel which had suffered from the fire and water. Expert opinion is to the effect that the ship has not suffered much structural damage. Post office clerks were sent aboard to examine the damaged bags and insured parcels and letters. The latest telegrams indicate that negotiations between the rebels and the Nanking and Mukden authorities at Mukden have become no longer a question of money but of actual bargaining over territory. The rebels have offered Mukden control of the Peking-Tientsin area, while Nanking, according to the Chinese newspapers, ig offering Chang Hsue-liang control of the six provinces, Shantung, Honan, Chinli, Shansi, Charchar and Suiyuan, though naturally the offer means if he can get them.
