GIALDINI ARRESTED.
Former Associate of Clarence Hatry. EXTRADITION UNLIKELY. (Keceived 11 a.m.) MILAN, March 16. John Gialdini, the former associate of Clarence Hatry, who is wanted in London, was arrested while he was leaving a hotel in Milan. He was taken to St. Victor prison and will be brought before an examining magistrate, who will decide on the evidence from England whether he can be prosecuted in Italy. It is most unlikely that Gialdini will be extradited to England. John Gialdini will probably be tried at Milan on evidence collected in England. John Gialdini went to Milan a week before his associates in the Hatry enterprises—Clarence Hatrf, Edmund Daniels, Albert Tabor and John Dixon—surrendered themselves for trial. Despite many calls for his return to England to give evidence in regard to alleged illegal transactions in which he took part, Gialdini remained in Italy, the country of his birth. WHEAT POOL. Possibilities of Finance Doubted. COST WILL BE HIGH. (Received 11.30 a.m.) MELBOURNE, this day. Mr. Latham, Leader of the Federal Opposition, doubts the possibility of financing a compulsory wheat pool. He says that more than £30,000,000 will be required to cover the 200,000,000 bushel crop aimed at by the Government. Mr. ELilpatrick, a member of the Legislative Assembly, told Wagga farmers that if a compulsory wheat pool were established the price for home consumption would probably be fixed at 6/ a bushel or more.
Questioned if he thought the Federal Cabinet would allow the local consumer to be charged 2/ or 3/ more than the export price, Mr. Kilpatrick said that the amount fixed by the special board acting for the Commonwealth authorities had nothing to do with it.
