A message from Daytona Beach, Florida, says Mr. Kay Don, English racing motorist, drove his car Silver Bullet for the first time under its own power. Two runs over a nine miles course were not timed, but it is understood that Mr. Don's tachometer indicated that a speed of 198 miles an hour was attained. Although the car held to the course fairly well it bumped along over several rough spots. As Mr. Don passed the grandstand ho was bouncing in the cockpit, but appeared to be having' little difficulty in keeping the machine under control. Upon arriving at the south end of the course Mr. Don brought the car to a stop for a thorough inspection before making the north run. Dr. Eckenstein, it is understood, examined the driver for blood pressure and heart action after the drive. Mr. Don intends to make a further trial on Monday if the beach conditions are favourable. The present motor speed record was established by Sir Henry Segrave on Daytona Beach on March 11, 1929. He drove one mile (flying start) in lo.oasecs., an average of 231.362 miles an hour.
