STOLE FROM ORCHARD.
YOUNG- MEN" WITH TRUCK. CAUGHT BY THE OWNER. "It is the old, old story of young fellows stealing apples," said Mr. J. J. Sullivan at the Police Court this morning, when he appeared for Haydn Nichols and Frederick Dean, two youths who pleaded guilty to a. charge of stealing apples valued at £4 belonging to Robert Henry Marr, at Oratia, on February 16. Chief-Detective Hammond said Mr. Marr caught both young men in his orchard. They had a truck outside, on which were ten sacks of apples. They were brought to town and sold.
Mr. Sullivan submitted there was no premeditation on the part of either accused, who were decent, respectable fellows. They were trying out a motor truck on the day in question, and had to get a tin of water for the radiator. They only took one bag of apples. Both were now very sorry. Each was fined £2, and ordered to make restitution of £2.
