N.Z. ATHLETES.

THE 1930 CHAMPIONS. ONIiY ONE AUCKLANDER. ENTHUSIASM FOR DON EVANS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WANGANUI, Sunday. The annual championship meeting of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association was continued on Cook's Gardens yesterday afternoon, and was concluded in the evening. The attendance was over 2000, while in the evening it was about double that number. Particular interest was being evidenced in the expected meeting of R. A. Rose, J. W. Savidan and D. Evans in the mile championship at night, 'but unfortunately Rose was suffering from leg injuries, and did not compete in accordance with his doctor's orders. As it was, he would have had to put up a wonderful performance to -beat Evans, who scored with ease from Bayne and Gibbons amid a scene of great enthusiasm. His time was nearly seven seconds better than standard. That was the second title to the credit of Evans, for in the afternoon he ran home ten yards ahead of Suckling, with Ogg a foot away, in the half-mile. The time was only onefifth of a second outside the best New Zealand performance. , ,P. J. Grose monopolised the cycle races, and secured all three titles. G. A. Golding, the Australian crack, showed great sportsmanship in the 220 yds and 440 yds, in taking the outside lane and making all his own running. On ten occasions standaid times were bettered.
