APACHE CLUB.

The Apache Club "was the Scene of an Egyptian carnival on Saturday evening. Harry Bolton's Apache Orchestra "was repeatedly encored by the many enthusiastic dancers, .their rendition of "In a Persian Market" being particularly appreciated. A large and enthusiastic committee which is conducting the obstetrical appeal in the Heme Bay, Ponsonby, Richmond and West End Estate districts, held its first meting in the Leys Instt tute. Mrs. W. A. Cooke presided. Tht placing of a room for committee mefiv in<rs during the campaign by the Leys Institute was greatly appreciated. Matters in connection with, the launching of the appeal were fully discussed. The whole area, being divided into five groups, will be canvassed by a busy band of energetic women workers. To augment the quota for the district, winch now stands at £250, an offer for a bridge drive to be held in Point Erin Park Kiosk, on Wednesday afternoon, March 26, was accepted. It was decided for the full committee to meet each Thursday at the Leys Institute. The conveners of the sub-committees for each group will meet when required. The following officers were elected: — Patron, Dr. Emma Buckley Turkhigton; chairman, Mrs. W. A. Cooke, committee, Mesdames Cammell, Dickinson,: Dreaver, Ford, Flynn, Gallaher, Grace,; Hastings, Jackson, Joiner, Kennett, Ley-i don, Marler, Palmer, Russell, Smith,! Torrance, Soljak, Wengdall and Williams, Misses Kieley and Phillips; hon., secretary, Miss Lassie Sloane; hon treasurer, Mrs. W. A. Cooke. Dr. Buckley Turkington consented to give addresses at the opening meeting of the; St. John's Methodist Women's, Guild nest Tuesday afternoon, and in the St. Cuthbert Mission Hall, West End, the same evening. A first subscription list accounting for £8 2/ was handed in by an energetic collector. AUXILIARY GARDEN FETE. A successful pageant and garden fete, in aid of the Auckland Hospital Auxiliary, Mount Eden Branch, wis held on Saturday afternoon and evening, at the residence and in the garden of E. H. Potter, Esq., Mayor of Mount Eden. Mr. Potter and Mr. G. C. Munns, M.P. for the district, welcomed the large attendance and eulogised the excellent work of the Hospital auxiliary. The Mayor then called on Mrs. Kidd to open the fete. Received with rounds of applause, Mrs. Kidd congratulated the Mount Eden branch on being one of the most active and energetic of this useful organisation.

Mrs. Potter, the Mayoress, who "was also on the platform, wore a moonlight blue silk with rosebud trimming, leghorn hat. Mrs. Kidd was in a frock of black georgette and lime, black hat and lemon rose. Mrs.'Ellis, the secretary, wore a patterned crepe de chine, black hat. The Mount Eden Boys' Band provided excellent music under the baton of Mr. George Marsh. Occasion was taken to present to the boys' band a very handsome mace, the gift of Mr. Philip M. SineL Stallholders were as follow: — Cake stall, Mesdames K. Lange and F. T. Bisley; cabbage patch, Mesdames T. B. Watson and B. Gary; electric cooking, Miss N. Park; fancy work, Mesdames Devereaux and Mason; sweets, Mesdames Gallagher, Priestley and Hooton; provisions, Mrs. B. Morley and Miss Staughton; poker work, Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Blackburn; guessing competition, Mrs. E. Reynolds and Miss Williams; ice cream, Mrs. D. Anderson, Misses Marion and Elanor Anderson; flowers, Mrs. Lugton, Misses . Rend ell, Eileen Westray and Nancy Rendell; fate and fortune, Miss K. Burley; shooting gallery, J. Whitehead; tea, Mrs. Somerville, Mrs. Whitehead, Mrs. Sheldon, Mrs. J. Rogers, Mrs. W. Marks and Miss Black. Much credit was due to Mr. Percy Landells for the able way in which he organised the fete. A dance entertainment was supplied in the evening by pupils of Miss Marjorie Turner and Miss Beryl Nettleton. The amount taken during the fete was £67 10/2,
