OBITUARY.
CAPTAIN M. C. CAMPBELL. Flags floated at half-mast on the shipping to-day on account of the death of Captain Matthew Clark Campbell, which occurred suddenly on March 10, at hk home, Great South Road. He was born in Glasgow, his father being a commodore in the City Line of steamers. The son was a cadet on the training ship Conway, and was so successful that he was recommended as a candidate for the gold medai awarded to the most efficient cadet. After serving his time for the neCesSai'y certificates, Captain Campbell joiiied the Clan Line, and Was for some time a chief officer. He came to New Zealand in 1016 as an extra officer Oh tlie Union S.S. Co.'s Steamer Willochra, which was then a troopship. Later, Captain Campbell joined the Northern Company) and, after he resigned) made a survey of Whangarei harbour. He was next in eominaitd of the Australian steanier Malaita, which at that time was carrying phosphates from Surprise and Walpole Islands. When the Malaita was laid up, Captain Campbell joined the firm of Leonard and Dingley, Ltd., stevedores. Deceased is survived by Mrs. Campbell and two children. MR. GEORGE EDGECUMBE. (By Telegraph.— Own Cdrrespondenti) HAMILTON, this day. Mr. George Edgecumbe, one of th« earliest Waikato residents, died at hi« home in Oliver Street, Remuera, aged 8i years. He settled at Ngaruawahia as a boy", alid eiltered the office of the "Waikato Times," which was established there. Later he took control of thf paper, and subsequently, when the "Tiiiies" office Was shifted to Hainiltdn he started the "Waikato Argus." H< was first chairman of the Ngaruawahh Town Board and first chairman of th( Hamilton High School Board. He hac been chairman of the Auckland Educa tion Board, a member of the Waikato Hospital Board* Mayor of Hamilton and a member of the Borouh Council and an' original member and Granc Master of the Lodge Beta, Hamilton He was an original member of Ihi Hamilton Club and Hamilton Bowline Club. He was a staunch member of tin Church of England. MR. HENRY LIVICK. i NELSON, this dav. Mr, Henry Livick, of Nelson, one o. the oldest commercial travellers in Nev Zealand, is dead.
