NOTES FROM RICCARTON

| HORSES FOR TRENTHAM. PULL FEATHER IN GOOD FETTLE. BED HECKLE'S CHANCHES. >;! (By Telegraph.—'Special to " Star.") . | RICCARTOX, this day. Sir George Clifford will have four '.-horses racing at the Wellington meeting, Rafter which they will"go on to Awapuni. .The three-vcar-old Waterline is' the one " ' • TT -Avho will attract most attention. He. "'commenced his racing career by .winning .sja maiden event at Trentham in January, : .and since then he has come into the •limelight by scoring twice in'open company. He is a big fellow with a long 'Stride, and his winning effort in the Midsummer Handicap, at Riecarton, marked him off for higher honours. As a stayer Jie will be hard to beat in the St. Leger ;nexfc' Saturday, and he will not be out of ;jplace in the Trentham Gold Cup and Awapuni Gold Cup.

-f Full Feather is in good fettle and has ,%nly to show his best form to race well on the trip.

Hurly Burly may pick up some j&oney among the hacks. The fourth -member of the team, the two-year-old pall Dress, has a fair turn of speed, but She is small and she may not get beyond Useful class. $ The team which F. D. Jones will race

at Trentham and Awapuni will number three. Paquito has freshened up as a result of an easy time since the Dunedin Sieeting, and a couple of gallops' .this sfeek showed him up very attractively. He ran a good race when he finished Second to Nightmarch in the Hazlett Gold fjup at Wingatui last month, and he Should perform well on the Northern trip. The two-year-old, Dunraven, will be Seen out once .at each of the. Northern meetings—the North Island Challenge Intakes and the Manawatu Sires' Produce ||takes. He has not realised-expectations ito far, but he should do better in the Autumn. His track work suggests that lie will stay® later on. || Arikiwai shaped fairly well at Motujlarara and he should improve from now on. The only doubt in his case is soundness, but if he trains on he will win races. I H. Nurse will take Rapier North, the fijain objectives being the Trentham. Gold Sup and the Awapuni Gold Cup, both of ■vfhich events he won last year. He was spelled for a few months this season, but fie has done a lot of solid work lately. He fps-had two races recently and he should be very near his best now. He is getting

lon in years, however,..and- he may be starting on the down grade, but if he remains, sound he. .looks .certain .to . get some money before he returns home. 1 Count Cavour is in great order and his recent efforts on the track show that he, is back to good form. He is a candidate for the Trentham Gold Cup, "in which he ghould run well, though it seems too much to expect that he will win unless the track is soft,.when the conditions will Improve his prospects. He will be accompanied by Leader. This three-yearrold is not up to the -best class, but he should pay his way: at the autumn meetings, j Mr. G. D. Greenwopd will have a couple Of three-year-olds at Trentham. Jaloux fs a useful St. Leger candidate, but the final pinch may worry him. Swiftray will take on hack events and he looks a good sort to follow, as he is a smart galloper. Pride will accompany this pair, but the Challenge Stakes may be too short for her. f F. Christmas will be at Trentham with

Red Heckle and Flair. The former, though a delicate horse, has done a lot of useful work lately. He is a great gal-

|pper and he will take a lot of beating in the Thompson Handicap. Flair has been moving rather scratchily of late, but she is a smart sprinter who may pay to follow. .

'I Dr. M. G. Louisson's recent purchase, Gay Crest, should earn some more money at Trentham* where he is engaged in the liigh-weight event and the mile hack race on the opening day. He shapes like staying. He will be accompanied by.the fw6-year-old, Adelphi, but this wellgrown youngster may require more time.

. Hoylake will also make the trip to race ori the second day. He ia very well. I Te Awhina is booked, for another trip to Trentham, where she showed good form in January. R. Ellis has her looking at lier best, and she should pay her way on tie trip, though the. Thompson Handicap dh the first day will be a hard race "to win. i- ; •' .<■■■ 7

j R. W. King "will make a trip to TrentHam with Aberfeldy. He may not be sufficiently forward to.show his best form j|et, but he will be a good horse tor keep in mind a little later in the season. 1 i

| F. P. Claridge will have a team for the Waimate and Oamaru meetings. Master Clarence and Haze can be ticked off as certainties to make the trip, while Kentish Lady and Koyal Heritage are possibles. Master Clarence has- made, great progress lately", and from' modest hack class he has emerged successfully in open: company. He has shown that he.can go a;? mile and a quarter, : and he will win more races, though there may be a ( dbubt about him against strong opposition over a distance, as he is a bit thick iij the wind. Haze is very well, but his . r|cord is against hira. He seems just gjpod enough to be beaten 'into a place, and he is not improving. The other two are just moderates, though Kentish Lady njay pick up a minor hack race, as she has. spaed. IF. D. Jones has broken in a two-vear-. old 'iilly by Diacquenod from "Waterspray, the clam of Pilliewinkie, Arikiwai and Toawai; also a yearling by Diacquenod from the Paper Money mare Currency, while he will make an early; start" on another Diacquenod yearling from Madrid, the dam of Paquito. During the absence of A. McAulay in Sydney,.where he has Nightmarch, True Shaft and Amor under his care, his home team is being looked after by, J.. Lindsay, who has started to take Mr. A. Louisson's yearlifags to the tracks. Agrion's half broker, by Pombal from Waterwings ana Phar Lap's brother, by Nightmarch from Entreaty, are regular visitors, but they are doing only walking exercise, as is the Banting Song—Eerie colt. ■ ) 6 ' : " OHINEMURI MEETING. iAcceptances - for the firfT day of the Ohinemurl Jockey' Club's annual meetin"' close at 8 p.m. to-day, with tre secretary, Mr. H. Poland, or Messrs. Elomneld and Co., Hign. Street, j Auckland* —- .
