ROAD WASHED AWAY.
STREAM FLOODS INTO GORGE.
DAMAGE NEAR DARGAVILLE. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) DARGAVILLE, this day. In the past 24 hours 3.G0 inches. of rain fell, making G. 62 inches for 44 hours. The torrential rains have effected a complete change in the formation of the on the "West Coast Road, "which was metalled only' a few months ago. In fact, the road has completely disappeared for a length of about two chains fiom the beach level, and this stretch has been rendered impassable for the passage of vehicles. "The beach road giving access to the car-parking, green has been very badly scoured and has been rendered very dangerous for traffic. ° Had it not been for the timely activity of Mr. C. N. Taylor, who diverted the rushing stream, the* road would* piobably have been completely washed out.. At this point .the'parking green was inundated by some 18 inches of soft sand -which was washed down from the hillside. Sand is .piled beneath and against Mr. Kinniburgh's house. " • : i
