Again many entries were received for the short story competition. The standard on the whole was quite good, although no work of outstanding merit was submitted. Leonard Heatley, 12, Grey Street West, Onehunga, was awarded the 5/ prize, and the stories of Sheila Quiiin! Haydn George, Dulcy Bauman, Jean Hawkins, and W. N. Hewitt were highly commended.
