THAMES TROTTING CLUB. EXCELLENT MARCH PROGRAMME. One of the brightest" items on the country circuit of trotting fixtures is the meeting of the Thames Trotting Club, which this year takes place on March 29. With owners, trainers and public the Thames meeting is most popular and the committee has drawn up an excellent bill of fare for the approaching gathering. It is the usual eight-event card" and the prize-money offered amounts to £1380. The Thames Cup carries 400sovs, including a very fine silver cup donated by,. Mr. Geo. McMillan. The complete programme is as follows:—Hikutaia Handicap of lOOsovs, limit 3.41, one mile and' a half; Kerepeehi Handicap of 150sovs, limit 4.49, two miles; Parawai Handicap of lOOsovs (for trotters), limit 3.50, one mile and a half; Puriri Handicap (saddle) of 115sovs, limit 2.23, one mile; Thames Trotting Cup of 400sovs, limit 4.40, two miles; Turua Handicap of 115sovs, limit 3.36, one mile and a half; President's Handicap (for trotters) of 200sovs, limit 4.59, two miles; Kopu Handicap of 200sovs, limit 2.54, one mile and a quarter. From the programme, which is advertised elsewhere in this issue, it will be noted that nominations for all events close with the secretary, Mr. E. O. Brownlee, Thames, or Mr. R. L. Absolum, secretary of the Otahuhu Club, on Friday, March 7, at 5 p.m.

Matters which will bo appreciated by owners and trainers are the providing of stabling accommodation free, and-the meeting of all boats and trains by a carrier provided by the club.

WAIKATO TROTTING CLUB,

THE APRIL PROGRAMME,

The meetings staged by the Waikatn Trotting Club are very popular, and owners will be interested in the programme drawn up for the one-day fixture to be held oh Saturday, April 5. The prize money is substantial all round, the best stake being the 400sovs attached to the Waikato Handicap. The complete programme is as follows: —- Improvers' Handicap, (for, trotters) of lOOsovs, limit 4.10, one mile and five furlongs; Progressive Handicap of 135sovs, limit 3.36, one mile and a half; Waikato Handicap of 400sovs and trophy valued at 50sovs, limit 4.38, two miles; Members' Handicap (for trotters) of 200sovi, limit 4.48, two mile's; Ra:g i lan Handicap of 130sovs, limit 4.44, two "miles; Waipa Handicap of 200sovs, limit 2.19, one mile'; Dominion Handicap of<l4osovs, limit 4.50, two miles; Farewell Handicap of 14osov„, limit 2.57J, one mile and a quarter. All are harness events, and nominations close at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 18.

COMPLIMENT TO HANDICAPPER

Owners of the slow-class trotters paid the Otahuhu Club's handicapper, Mr. C. Goosman, a high compliment when acceptances closed yesterday. For the Trial Trot 16 horses were nominated and so well did Mr. Goosman do his part in assessing the abilities of the horses that the whole 16 were accepted for. The race looks the best ; ofgood things for the smart three-year-old White Satin, owned by the local sportsman, Mr. Geo. McMillan. White Satin is on 60yds, but the company is very weak for the most part, and those on the front of the handicap on anything they have yet accomplished are not worth considering.

OTAHUHU CUP. A DOZEN PAID UP FOR. The acceptance of a cfozen for the Otahuhu Trotting. Cup must be considered particularly good and though most people will be content to regard Great Peter as the most likely to get the stake, the race is by no means a good thing for Mr. Timms' horse. The son of Nelson Bingen will find the class opposed to' him next Saturday very much different to that he met at the summer meeting, when he was the star performer and won a race each day. His effort on the final day, when he scored nicely and tramped two miles in 4.28 3-5, was a fine one, and on that performance it is not easy to find one- to beat him next week-end. . .Still class has to be considered and when he has to start off the same mark as Native Prince, Talent and Torpedo Huon, he will find he has to go fast and stay too. Talent is not regarded as a real stayer arid two miles consistently finds him out. Torpedo Huon wants the track like asphalt for him to be seen,at his.best, and Native Prince, although a brilliant horse, is not a betting proposition. Nelson Tasker, 12yds, is staying on better with age, but two miles in present com-

pany will possibly find him beaten. Sunshower is a much improved pacer-and a good stayer, and this, looks like being one of the hardest to'dispose of. Free' Advice and The Abbey, also on 24yds, : have, some ; smart performances to their: credit,, and of the pair Free Advice reads; best. Machine Gun, 48yds, has a ; chance,! bu6 Kohara, 60yds, should be able to Ibeat him. Jewel Pointer has been out (of form for so. long that he cannot be considered just yet. Padlock, a great [horse, is asked to concede, up.to 96yds. It is-a .big task, but he is likely to 'bei ebout at the' end. Just at present the chief fancies may be Sunshower, Great ; Peter and Kohara.
