March I—Banks Peninsula R.C. March 1, 3—Te Aroha J.C. March 5, 6—Rangltlkei R.C. Count Palatine's second to Otairi in the SteAvards' Handicap points to the Wairarapa horse being on the improve again. He is only a three-year-old and may do much better iioav that he has slioAvn signs of coming back to form again. i * It Avas a great effort on the part of Red Fuchsia to run second to Democratic in.the Westmere Hurdles Avitli the big impost of 12.5 on his back. The All Red gelding is a first-class hurdler, avlio is likely to slioav up prominently in jumping events later on.. After failing at tlie Gisborne meeting White Wings Avon the Flying Handicap at Poverty Bay on Thursday. The Limond filly Avas not seen at her best at the firstnn ined meeting owing to having a rough trip down on the boat. HoAvever, she is evidently herself again and sliounl win further races during the trip.

Tlie New Plymouth, trainer R. Johnson I will have Ridgemount, The Swell, Bonogne and Belle Star to represent him at the Woodville meeting next week. St. Ames, who scored his initial wiu in the Summer Hack Race at the Poverty Bay meeting on Thursday, is a five-year-old' gelding by St. Amans from Potoa Queen. He is owned by the well-lcno\yn Auckland sportsman Mr. W. Scholium. The defunct Quin Abbey was repicsented by a winner at the Dunedin meeting, when Quinopal scored in the Trial Stakes. He is a four-year-old gelding, who claims Glenopal as his dam, the .lastnamed being by Glengowrie from Opal. After his good performance in the Taranaki Stakes, Toxeuma looks like making an early return to the winning list. The Woodville meeting will probably find tlio Hawke's Bay galloper in action agkin. . ' The Arrowsmith gelding Ranelagh registered his second victory this season when he led the field home'in the Berwick Handicap at Dunedin on Thursday. Ranelagh is stated to be a good type of galloper, and Southern critics predict a profitable future for him. . With a record of three firsts and two second'placings Limosin lias paid his way well in hack company during the' present season. He accounted for several smart hacks when he won the Petre Handicap at Wanganui, and, judged on his latest form, he should soon win liis way out of that class. 1 That good mare Oratrix is due to make her next appearance in the Woodville Cup, which conies up for decision next Wednesday. She has only had one race this season, and although she finished out of a place she is reported to have run a good race and early improvement can be looked for. The Champagne Stakes winner at the Dunedin meeting, Compensation, is by Anomaly from Hard Cash. He showed considerable promise earlier in the season by winning the first two races that he contested, both of which he won at the Dunedin summer meeting in December. With a record of three wins and one second in the five races that he has contested to date, Compensation has done remarkably well and is evidently a smart juvenile, of whom something better can be expected in the future.

After winning the Otaio Plate at Riccarton in November, Dolomite appeared to lose form and failed to show up in eight subsequent starts since then. However, he got on the winning list again at the Taranaki meeting last week, where he annexed the Okato. Handicap. Wanganui on Thursday Dolomite was seen to further advantage, when he carried top-weight (9.G) and beat a "useful field of hacks in the Victory Handicap. He has now won his way out of the hack class, but that should not prevent him from recording further successcs during the present season.
