INTENSE 'QUAKE RECORDED.

An earthquake, believed centred about 3400 miles north-west of San Francisco, perhaps west of the Aleutians, was recorded recently at the University of California and elsewhere in the United States.

The shock lasted three and'a half hours.

According to Dr. Perry Byeriy, assistant Professor of Seismology at the University of California, the movement started at 3J ajn., Pacific time, and lasted until about 6.37.

Tie earthquake was also recorded at tie ±mmam~"Mnse-tmr of National History, Xew York City;-Tordiam University, New York; the Harvard seismograph statics, and at the University of Nevada.
