PRICES HIGHER.

TIMARU WOOL SALE. SPIRITED COMPETITION. EIGHTY PER CEXT SOLD. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) TIMARTJ, Friday. Tie second South Canterbury wool sal of the season -was held this afternoon when 14,439 bales were offered, compare; ■with 22,470 bales. at the corrcspondini sale last year. The decrease in the oiler ing may be attributed to wet weatlie delaying shearing and to ' some growcri holding wool in the meantime in conse quence of the state of the market. Generally speaking, the offering was no up to the usual standard, the unseasonabli weather resulting in a big proportion o the wool being tender. Super_lots weri really few and far between. Compared with the Dunedin sale 01 Wednesday prices for Merino were < roennv- dearer, halfbreds were a haltpennj to three-farthings dearer and three-quar.tei and crossbreds a halfpenny dearer. Pieci ■wools elicited keen competition trom Con tinental buyers and were about a pennj SO per cent of the wool was sole at auction. The 'bulk went to the Gonti nent, but Bradford and Dominion millf competed keenly for suitable lots. _ The following is the range of prices:— Merino. —Extra super,-up to 14d; super liy 2 d to 13d; average, lOd to llcl; interior 8d to 9%d. Halfbred.— Super, 12d to 13% d; average 10d to lid; inferior, 7%d to 9%' d. Three-quarterbred.—Super, 9d to lid; average, ?y2cl to B%d; inferior, 6d to <d. Fine Crossbred—Super, lOd to lid; average.
