A PIANIST'S PUNCH.
The pianist is a person -Kith a power- t fill punch, according to estimates of the amount-of force expended upon the'piano by a player in making a note sound. If the pianist is playing fortissimo at times the force of six pounds is thrown upon a single key to produce a solitary effect. "With chords the force is generally 1 spread over the various notes sounded 1 simultaneously, though a greater output 3 of force is undoubtedly expended. c is what gives pianists the wonderful strength in their fingers. : ! Paderewski, according to an account c in London "Tit-Bits," . could crack a t pane of French plateglass half an inch thick merely by placing one hand upon it as if upon a piano keyboard and striking it sharply with his middle i t finger. 1 1
