One of the oldest town bridges in England is the bridge which crosses the River Witham in the centre of the city of Lincoln. On the east side of this historic bridge stands an obelisk that marks the site where once the Chapel of St. Thomas of Canterbury stood, on the west side there is a number of sixteenth* I century timbered houses. Lincoln .Bridge is the only bridge in England that still carries such old buildings. At either end of these houses there are stone steps leading to the river.
