'; McLean and F.C.;Gould when the matter came before the-council;« In its- report the works: committee drew the council's attention to the fact that many of the subsidiary roads and footpaths were in a very bad state of repair and required urgent attention. Mr. McLean expressed the opinion that the council's method of spending.money -was not quite right.-, He. said -that in the first six months of the year ; a sum of £1100 had been spent by the roads "and works department. He believed this was without the,sanction of the council. "We must realise that there is a certain income and beyond that income we must not go," said Mr..
