NEW POST OFFICE. — OFFICIAL OPENING ON MONDAY. A MODERN BUILDING. On Monday afternoon New Lynn's first State-owned post office ' will be. officially opened by the Hon. , J.. B. Donald at 2 p.m. Hitherto the postal facilities of the district for the past 25 years have been conducted from premises not owned by the Post and Telegraph Department. The present valuable site, situated in the heart of the borough, was purchased by the Crown 17 years ago at the low figure of £100 from Mr. H. Todd, of New Lynn. The necessity of a modern building has long been felt in the district, the rapid growth of the locality being reflected in the figures below. An area of 12S0 acres was constituted a town board area on June 20, 1910, when the total number of inhabitants barely totalled the requisite 500.' transport, facilities. With the present services now operating an improvement is fully anticipated. Public Debt. 1923 . £21.050 1930 109,480 The public debt is accounted for by a district water supply, concrete main highway and the installation of a modern sewerage system.
