Jazz Disturbs Calm Of The Canals. POLICE TAKE ACTION. VENICE, January 17. Venice—once a city the silence of which was broken only by the music of tender serenades—lias risen in revolt again3t the gramophone and the loudspeaker. The police are taking action against these nuisances. It is explained that the peculiar acoustics of Venice amplify jazz to such an extent that it becomes deafening 'across the narrow canals.
