CLOSE ATTENTION TO ROADS
Concluding his. North Auckland tour yesterday, the .Minister' of Public Works, Hon.. E. A. Ransom,, travelled over the new road of ten miles between Taheke, on the Rawene-Kaikohe :main road, to Horeke, towards Hokianga Harbour. Replying to a request that the road, should .be metalled, the Minister referred to settlers in other parts who were worse off, but said he ■ would consider, the finances. -A. . ■ by-road to. give access - to- - , fatpis off the Wainia. River. /. might,'; be ' constructed by. relief work. 't The completion of a four and a half mile gap in the main highway between' Kaikohe • and Whangarei was urged by a deputation of the Kaikohe Chamber of Commerce and'by settlers at Awarua. The Minister recognised the. importance of this suggestion, and said he-, would endeavour ,to do '.what he co'uld. ; At Parakao the, Minister; agreed to recommend £500 for further work on the Opouteke Road, where a loan, of £2000 had been expended with only £800 subsidy.
