HEIGHTS FOR FIRST DAY

i ; CUP AND STEWARDS' ; RECENT FORM DISCUSSED. THE EVENTS REVIEWED. The we!gjfts.}iayfi: been ideqlared.by Mj;, W. P. tba first day of the summer meetifig'df the Takapuna Jockey Club, and the most discussed events, just now are the Takapuna Cup and. the Stewards Handicap, which form" the "double." The Takapuna Cup. Prodice,,has .-the -post. of honour in the Takapunav ysp With' 9.6,'"-and ffchis-' should* not be but* of the way for such a good filly. She won the Alison Cup, one mile and three', furlongs, in hollow fashion at the Shore in the spring, carrying B.G. She ran third in the Auckland Racing Club Handicap, one mile and a half, with 8.8 and third in the Grandstand Handicap, one mile and a quarter, with 8.12. In the Shade was well beaten -in the Alison Cup when conceding her 51b, and she finished in front of iiini' in the' Auckland' Cup, when she was in receipt of 101b. Now Prodice has'to give him 51b and should hold him, unless) he''makes ;ay^reat* I 'deal of improvement in tlie" interim. Corinax was in receipt of lib from Prodice at the Shore in November last .an finished out of a place, though he won the . next day. He had to give her 61b in the Auckland Cup and she finished in front of him. He only beat her by a head for second place in the Auckland Racing Club Handicap, Corinax having 81b the better of matters. Now Prodice has to give Corinax 71b, and both should be evenly matched on the latter showing. Royal Doulton won the .Summer Cup with 7.3 and has been raised 111b. She did not meet and of those* abovementioned, but she is now handily placed at 8.0. True Blood has 7.9, -|riit was well beaten in his two recent efforts at Stratford. High- Pitch Avas fourth in T the Grandstand Handicap at Ellerslie with 7.2, Prodice (8.12) finishing! in front of him, while Corinax (8.6) w^aa,unplaced. He has now 7.4, but will have to improve to beat that pair- on the present adjustments. Lucy Rose (7.4) finished second in the Grandstand Handicap' with -7.0, a neck in .front of Prodice, and while Prodice has only gone up 21b as compared with that $race, Lucy Rose has 41b more to carry. Rose beat a. good field in the Christmas Handicap, one mile, at Ellerslie, -with' the minimum, and has' only beeif'.xaised lib. If. \ she can stay further, 'which is yet to be proved, she would take some beating: Le Choucas finished second in the .Thames pup, which is his belt!io^some'time; while of the others Flying Juliet and Hipo may be the best. A few that may find favour just now, are Prodice, Corinax, Royal Doulton, Lucy Rose, Eager-Rose. The Sprinters^ Paganelli has 9.13 in the Stewards' Handicap, or 21b more .than he was beaten with in the Stewards' Handicap at Riccarton. Of course the field is not nearly so strong,' and if fie is in the same form he would be itjery hard to beat. Eaglet showed gQOd sprinting ability in the spring, but, recently has had her attention confinedl';to '-longedjs;,tances. She has 8.9, or 31b over weight-', for-age, but 1 if at her best would be hard to dispose of. Prince Val has shown good ability this season up to a mile and he has been awarded 8.4. This is all he is entitled to. Taneriri (8.3) may find the distance a bit too short, for him,- butAwarere (8.3), on his Ellerslie running, looksj a very likely proposition. He won the Newmarket Handicap with* '7.0 and was second to Leitrim in the. Bowen Handicap with 7.131. Now he has 8.3 and it not at all badly in, for he has been improving all the time recently. Gold Money was fourth in the Bowen Handicap with 8.1, and now has lib more. This filly ran one of her best .races for some time in that event, and with the improvement that can be expected in the interim she should. Jie troublesome. Of the others, Refresher, White Wings and Lady Quex, who won at the last meeting, may be best. Just now the most favoured may be Awarere, Eaglet, Gold Money, Paganelli and Lady Quex.
