OLD ENGINE DUMP.
BLASTING OPERATIONS CEASE SEQUEL TO COMPLAINT. _ There is an old engine dump at the site of the Newmarket railway workshops. When it was decided to shift the shops to Otahuhii, tenders were called for the removal of the scrapped locomotives, and the successful . tenderer started to blast the mass of machinery in order to obtain parts of value. Residents in the vicinity became apprehensive concerning the operations, and the blasting was considered a nuisance. Representations were made to Mr. H. R. Jenkins,-M.P., and he in turn took the matter up with the Minister Railways. Mr. Jenkins has received word from the Minister to the effect that blasting operations must cease at once, and the hope is expressed that the residents will have no further cause for complaint.
