RAIN ALTERS CONDITIONS.

SEVERAL ROUTES IMPASSABLE

The touring manager of the Auckland Automobile Association, Mi • R- RChamptaloup, made a favourable report on tlie conditions of the roads throughout the province, but heavy rain during tlio last few days has altered the conditions a good deal and now revised ad vice, lias come to hand. . The Main Highways Board has indicated that the former rough road over the Otoko Hill has now been put in excellent condition. Motorists are advised not to take the now route via Waioeka. Valley. One-way traffic only will be allowed on the'Rotorua-Wliaka-tane Road "during the holidays, half the road having been fenced oft with white barrels. , „ The road from Rotorua to the northern shores of Lake Waikaremoana through the U row era country is impassable, and two weeks' fine weather will l»o necessary before the route is in passable condition again. In the centre of the island, the route from Karioi to Wan<mmii via Mangamahu is closed, but the road through Raetihi to Wanganui is in good order. Drivers are advised to go over the Kaimai Hills on their way from Waihi to Tanranga. Rain has seriously affected the northern roads, the road through Wurkwort.h in particular being in a bad state. An A.A.A. patrol stationed at Wollsford has reported that a large number of cars have been stuck near there, all for the reason that the drivers would not attach chains. Most motorists are railing their cars from Helensvillc to Maungiituroto. The A.A.A. appeals to motorists to show courtesy to workmen on the road. Lately several have been injured by Ismail stones flying from the wheels of .ears which were travelling too fast.
