SOCIAL GATHERINGS.

A party, numbering forty, consisting of littl& : ones who would not otherwise get a Christmas treat, was entertained vestcrcjay afternoon by Mr. Frank Cresj pin at.Uook'fi, when' they were served with istrawberries and cream, much to the delight of the youngsters. A pleasant function was held at the Te Hoe Schdol on Friday afternoon, on the school breaking up for the holidays. Miss Mavis Thompson, on behalf of the pupilsj' presented their teachers, Miss Parkinson, with a jardiniere, and Mr. T. G. Hamilton with a clock. In the_ evening a Christmas tree was planted in the Te Hoe Hall, Santa Claus giving little gifts to all the children of the district. During the evening recitations and vocal numbers were given by the children. * * * »

MisaiHilda Parkinson gave a party for her elocution pupils at her studio on Saturday. Paper hats, balloons and favours were distributed among the, pupils. Recitations, dialogues, musical items and games were much appreciated. A tea party and Christmas tree was given to nearly fifty children of the St. James' Church Sunday School, at the Oriental Rendezvous, Mangere, on Saturday afternoon last. Mr. and Mrs. Hall. An enjoyable Christmas party was given to tiie children in Ward 11 at the Auckland Hospital by the Victoria League girls' committee. A splendid programme was presented by Mrs. Wyatt, dances, songs and choruses being taken from her pantomime, ''Wonderland." The performances of the children, who came over from Belmont for the purpose, was excellent. The little patients were given paper caps and squeakers and to add to the enjoyment there was a Christmas tree laden with dolls, pictures and toys, all having been made by the girls' committee. Father Christmas (Miss Valerie Wyatt) took the parcels off the tree and they were distributed by little fairies. Mrs. Ricerby, chairman of the committee, thanked Mrs. Wyatt for the beautiful performance. A delicious supper followed.

A dance was held at the Oriental Rendezvous, Mangere, 011 Saturday evening, when the St. James' Church Social Guild held their final dance of the season. A party was given by Mrs. A. B. Hart, Kitchener P.oad, Edendale, at the Carlton Hall, on Saturday evening, in honour of the coming of age of her daughter Maribel. The hall was prettily dccorated with balloons and streamers, and the guest of honour was the -recipient of many beautiful presents. All Saints' Parish Hall presented a merry scene on Friday afternoon when the Birkenhead Kindergarten held its breakiug-up party and Christmas tree. The children, under the direction of their teacher, Miss Isobel Gillillan, sang songs and played games which were greatly enjoyed. Each child received a gift oil' tiie Christmas tree, and the parents received presents which the children had made. Afternoon tea concluded an enjoyable afternoon.
