Police ' Court to-day to six charges of breaking arid entering. He was ' committed for in Christchurch, Hvhere.he will-also appear'on another similar- charge.' • • • ■
Accused is, a coal miner. In a statement to the-..police he', said he came from Gr.eymputh-.on ! 27. ..He admitted breaking*, into .the .Caver-sham. Post Office, the South' Dunedin Savings Bank, and other-premises, and. charging safes with'gelignite'and firing the charges by ineans , of detonators, electric wires and a. small battery. He said he had done all the jobs alone.
;■ The police said a good deal of damago had been done to the premises. From one safe accused took £26. At ; one of tho places , accused ' climbed a 'slanting roof next door, then broke a pane of glass'in the skylight, and lowered himself '.into tne office. Ho first blew open a strongroom door, and then blew open two safes in the strongroom.
